LOOKING BACK
We pictured a little bit of everything on the cover of Cycle News 50
years ago to give you a little bit of an idea as to what you'll find inside…
We covered the rain-delayed Bonneville Speed Week meet, where many
records were broken. One of those was in the 175cc class, where the
John Serra and Darrel Packard duo went 92.512 on a very modified
open-frame Kawasaki. The Gas record was broken by Phillip Waterberg
on a 124.528-mph Vincent.
Our cover story was our preview of the Coca-Cola Bottlers Motocross
Finals at Anaheim Stadium… We covered the Trans-AMA MX Series
round at Sears Point. Darrell Shultz and Danny Chandler were the
big winners… We also covered the Women's National Motocross from
Carlsbad Raceway, where Carey Steiner went home with the number-
one plate… Bob Balentine won the CRC Cal City Grand Prix… We tested
the latest LCD enduro clocks… Bernie Schreiber won the Trick Or Treat
V.O.T.E. Trials in Littlerock, California.
