ROUND 3/JANUARY 19, 2013 ANGEL STADIUM/ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA SUPERCROSS P50 MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM CHAMP Ryan Sipes (21) won an exciting 250 heat race over Martin Davalos. "It [the race] was exciting, it was the toughest one yet for sure," Tomac said. "There was a lot of good battling going on. The first 10 laps were heated the whole time. At that point you're just trying to pick lines, trying to figure out where to pass and wait for a mistake." That mistake came on the ninth lap when Roczen bobbled, leaving the door open just before the finish line jump. A lap later Tomac used a crafty outside-inside line on the start straight to take the lead from Seely. "I was really good in the flat corners tonight," said Tomac "That's where I was catching those guys a little bit." While Roczen fought to get around Seely, Tomac opened up a small lead and would go on to take the win about three seconds ahead of Roczen, who has now finished second to Tomac three races in a row. "In the heat race everything went good," a frustrated Roczen said of his night. "That was the first main event where I had a good start, so I can't complain on that, but Eli is riding a really high pace right now. He's super strong but we're right there, getting closer and closer every time we go out there, so I believe in the team, and I believe in myself, so we are going to try our best again next weekend, that's all we can do and maybe one day it will just click and here we go." Finishing out the race a distant fourth, almost 15 seconds behind third-placed Seely, was GEICO Honda's Zach Osborne. He was fast in timed qualifying but mid-pack starts once again hurt his chance of running up front with his teammate and the rest of the top dogs. He moved into fourth around lap six but by then the pack of Seely, Roczen and Tomac had already checked out, pulling a 10-plus-second gap. Local boy Jake Canada on his MotoConcepts Honda pulled off
