D
alton Shirey (Rockstar Ener-
gy Husqvarna Factory Racing
Off-Road Team) came out on
top of a somewhat contentious sev-
enth and final round in the Kenda/
SRT AMA Hare & Hound National
Championship Series to earn his
first-ever series triumph ahead of
Beta's Joe Wasson and Purvines
Racing Yamaha's Nick Burson.
But in the fight for the champion-
ship, Kendall Norman (Pro Circuit/
Renthal/ Alpinestars CRF450X)
enjoyed a comfortable points lead
over Burson going in, 152-128.
Thus, Burson faced a do-or-die situ-
ation: win or, if Norman happened
to finish out of the points, get sec-
ond for the day.
"I was going to try to win—that
was my goal—I wanted to win," Bur-
son said. "It's my backyard."
Thus, when Norman found him-
self running around seventh past
the bomb at the Spangler Hills Off-
Highway Vehicle Area, site of the
51st Annual End of the Trail National
Hare & Hound hosted by the 100s
Motorcycle Club, he played it smart
and let the race play out over its two
separate 40-mile loops.
