VOL. 55 ISSUE 42 OCTOBER 23, 2018 P75
In the end, it was Troy Lee Designs KTM rider Shane
McElrath who stood atop the podium, having bested Red
Bull KTM rider Ryan Dungey in the final. When the bracket-
race format came down to the final four, McElrath squared
off against his TLD KTM teammate Jordon Smith, and after
a hard-fought win, McElrath went on to face Dungey for
the overall win. Considering Dungey had topped qualifying
and was the quickest rider all night, it was somewhat of a
surprise finish, even to McElrath.
"I never thought that I couldn't do it, but racing for the
quarterfinals against Jordon, I was really nervous," said
McElrath. "Because I'm like, this could take me all the way
or this could put me in fourth. And I didn't want to be fourth.
None of us come here to race for anything less than first.
