SUPERCROSS RED BULL STRAIGHT RHYTHM OCTOBER 20, 2018 FAIRPLEX AT POMONA / POMONA, CALIFORNIA P82 the night's photo finishes happened in the 125 ranks. "I feel like every one of my finishes was a photo finish!" Catanzaro said with a laugh. "And you can't tell. When you're in the moment, you think you win it… you don't know. I think it was three or four times I crossed the finish line and I didn't know if I won or not. But that's good rac- ing and I'm sure the fans love it as well." BUBBA AND THE KING! AJ Catanzaro and Luke Renzland both showed up to Red Bull Straight Rhythm in full dress, each paying homage to their heroes. AJ Catanzaro ran a number 259 on his Ka- wasaki KX125 and rocked hot pink and zebra print gear complete with a "Bubbalicious" butt patch in a nod to James Stewart. Luke Ren- zland went as Jeremy McGrath circa 1991 with his full Team Peak guise, running the number 125 on his Yamaha YZ125 and full retro gear. called it his first-ever pro race aboard a two-stroke. As did winner Shane McElrath. "I've never really ridden a 250 (two-stroke). It's got a lot of power and trying to jump some of the jumps, that's what took me so long to get used to," said McElrath. "The first time I rode it was Wednesday of this week for about 20 minutes and then I put about 20 minutes of practice on it for Thursday here and then I had to show up and race. I was really nervous. But each run I was just trying to put the track together more and more. I had to do it when it counted." When asked if he was glad he never raced two- strokes in his pro career, Smith replied with a laugh, "I think I am. They're a little tough to ride and finicky with the jetting. But it's always fun to come out and do something like this." STILL RETIRED? Ryan Dungey was all smiles all day. Not much has changed as he still had the longest lines for autographs and showed he hasn't lost any fitness or edge. Did his first race back change anything for him, or is he still glad to be retired? "Yeah," he said with a laugh. "I miss it, but life goes on. Ready for the next!" Briefly... Carson Brown (910), calling on his pit-bike racing skills, carried smooth momentum to win the 125 class. RED BULL CONTENT POOL
