IN THE WIND P50 CHAT ROOM: DEAN WILSON E ver since Dean Wilson's ill- fated accident at Glen Helen Raceway in May, we haven't seen much of him. Before he was able to rebound from his knee injury, it was announced that Wilson had been dropped from the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Team roster, leav- ing the Scot a free agent ahead of the 2019 AMA Supercross Championship. We recently caught up with Wilson at Glen Helen, where he was riding a stock Husqvarna FC 450, and checked in to see where his fitness is at and what might lie ahead for next season. It's good to see you riding again! How are you feeling? I'm feeling pretty good—just getting back, getting my bear- ings rolling again. Man, last time I was here was after Vegas Supercross, testing for the out- doors and I had someone jump into me and that's when I blew my knee. And then I came today and it's so busy again, I'm pretty timid passing riders. It's hard because they don't see you from behind. Obviously they don't have eyes behind their head, so it's scary today, for sure. Getting into the silly sea- son at this point. Anything to report? I wish I had something to re- port but I don't. I'm just trying to figure some things out. Definitely going to be a privateer—not on a factory team. That's fine. Obvi- ously it's not ideal, but it's just the cards I'm dealt and I'm going to make the best of it. You are here with WP, does that mean you're going to be on a KTM or Husky? [laughs] No, WP is just nice enough to help me out. I'm rid- ing with stock suspension and my shock is really, really soft so they're just going to put a stiffer spring in, which is awesome. But I don't know what manufacturer I'm going to be on. Husky's just letting me borrow a bike for now. So that's just where I'm at—bor- rowing a Husky, and hopefully next week I'll have more news on what I'm doing. Are there any races on the horizon for you? I would like to do a couple off- season races just to get going a little bit, just to get some races under my belt. But other than that, Anaheim I is the big goal. Fitness-wise, what were you dealing with, how are you doing? We're getting better and bet- ter. I'm on a plan and a program and just building myself up and trying to work on [getting well]. I'm never going to stop doing rehab on my injuries because that's really what needs the at- tention so I'm always just trying to work on my weaker parts of the body and I'm getting stron- ger and my fitness is getting better, too. Sometimes when you're forced to stay on the side- lines it lets everything else heal up. Did you get some good downtime? Yeah, exactly. I did… I did some cool stuff. I gave a little mini bike away to a kid, which was cool. And then I also did a few riding schools and I was cycling every day and [working on] my fitness and doing my physical therapy. And I went to a couple amateur nationals as well. So I just tried to keep myself busy while I was hurt. Obviously it's pretty painful not being at the races and being hurt. So I just tried to keep my mind occupied and before you know it, here we are on the bike. So it's good. Jean Turner
