IN THE WIND P40 ALL GREEN AT GLEN HELEN 24-HOUR ENDURANCE A rare Southern California storm the night before and rain during the first half of the race affected all competitors (and spectators) at the Glen Helen 24-hour Endurance Race, October 13-14, but the Precision Concepts/Chaparral Motorsports Kawasaki crew dealt with it best to dominate from start to finish. How dominant was the quartet of Michael del Fante, Clay Hen- geveld, Justin Seeds and Blayne Thompson? Despite a couple of minor spills requiring parts replace- ment, they kept a consistently fast pace while splitting time aboard their FMF/Maxxis/Fast House-sponsored KX450 to re- cord 69 laps during the arduous 24 hours, three laps more than the next quickest team: Open Ex- pert winners Jacob Argubright/ Nick Garvin/Brandon Peterson/ Colton Udall/Ian Young on their AHM/Baja Bound Insurance/Fixe Hardware-backed CRF450X. The Open Expert victors were, in turn, four laps ahead of third overall, the Over 30 Expert-win- ning squad of Adam Chapman, Matt Eddy Jr., Ryan Liebelt, An- drew Puckett, Justin Schultz and Rowan Trefz who campaigned their TBT Racing/Baja Bound Insurance/IMS YZ450FX. "Justin [Seeds] started and got the holeshot; he got out front early, opened up a little gap and we've just been maintaining the gap for the whole 24 hours," Thompson said while waiting for the finish on Sunday morn- ing. "Conditions yesterday in the morning when we started were really, really bad. It started raining again so it got sloppier, then it stopped. "Throughout the night, the track got perfect and right now, everybody's lap times have dropped—the track's perfect right now!" Besides the speedy riding, credit for the win must be shared with the maintenance strategy the team followed with frequent pres- sure washing in the pits to clear mud from the radiators and to Clay Hengeveld (shown), Michael del Fante, Justin Seeds and Blayne Thompson proved to be an unbeatable team, Precision Concepts getting the win for the second year in a row.
