SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. April 20 - Bob Grossi was the Champion of Champion
Speedway's first AMA motocross event. The lS-year-old athlete stole the show away
from an estimated 150 other riders, wtnnlng aU three 250Cc Expert motos and setting
fast time.
Grossi's Montesa skimmed around the slick, bruta11-1/16 mile course in 1 minute, 4 seconds flat. It was Grossi's farewell performance before departing for two
months racing in Europe.

In only four weeks under the direction of track manager Howard Sutton the
Speedway-by-the-Bay bas blossomed into a near-first rate racing plant. There'is a
beautlfuf, banked 5/8 mile oval, the motocross course in the infield, and soon there'll
be a short track and speedway, according to Sutton. Champion is open six days a
week tor practice at $1 charge toAMA cardholders and on Wednesdays and Saturdays
new riders are taught how in special classes conducted by Sutton and the San Francisco area motorcycle dealers.
