Spencer SONOMA, Cal. April 9, 1969. Northern California's newest speed facillty bad a new type of racing on it as some of tbe nations' finest motorcycle riders turned out for the first testing session at this beautiful race plant. The track was quite wet in some areas but the first timing sessions were quite fast with San Francisco H-D rider Mert Laww1ll and Los Angeles Yamaha road racer RalPh White turning tbe quickest times in just under 2: 15. Under dry circumstances all agreed that ten seconds could be chopped off that. The fastest time turned on this billy 2.5 mile, twelve-turn track was in a Canadian-American type race car of 1: 15: 13. The average speed was 83 mph with the bikes averaging right around 67 mph.
