The scheme was started by Alan Kimber, who must be the most Imaginative soul in Britain. Purpose, being to publicize the good side of motorcycling and to have a prestigious event similar to the' car type rally across Africa. From London to Istanbul and back Is about 5000 miles. Many manufacturers have indicated Interest, thinking It would make fine advertising for their products and about 200 riders have entered at $120 a head. Riders would cover about 450 miles per day for 11 days, with three days of rest periods. A look at the globe reveals some exotic country one would pass through. Strange roads in strange lands would be an added haZard along with the normal machine troubles that would be encountered on such a marathon. Five thousand miles in Europe would have to include many countries, but a look at our own map shows that we could have a longer marathon without leaving the continental old USA. It's interesting to think about, a rally to Florida or New England and back.
