the most of his last ride before retirement, held
fourth for one lap before giving way to Henry Wiles
(Bandit Industries/Wilco Racing Indian Scout
FTR750). After his dominating performance last
week in Minnesota, Briar Bauman (Zanotti Racing/
Roof-Systems Indian Scout FTR750) was sixth
ahead of the only non-Indian motorcycle in the top
10, JD Beach (Estenson Racing/Stauffer Motors
Yamaha FZ-07).
After five laps Mees took the point, but Smith
never wavered and kept harassing Mees all around
the large oval. Eventually Cose lost positions to first
Bauman and then Jeffrey Carver (Roof-Systems
of Dallas/Indian of Metro Milwaukee Indian Scout
FTR750). Coolbeth, Wiles, Beach, Jake Johnson
(Estenson Racing/McCandless Truck Center Indian
Scout FTR750) and Davis Fisher (Double D Perfor-
mance/Bob Lanphere Indian Scout FTR750) filled
out the top 10.
Mees continued to fend off every Smith chal-
lenge, but it was hard to tell how serious Smith
was about taking the lead so early. All the while
Meadowlands
hosted an AFT race
for the first time and
many hope it won't
be the last.
