side the top 10 while teammate
Plessinger was initially hot on
Tomac's heels. Plessinger fell on
lap two, though, and a second
time around the halfway point,
and could only muster 18th in
the moto. Things went south
early lead with The Netherlands'
MXGP World champ Jeffrey
Herlings. Herlings fell on the
opening lap, and Prado led the
first half of the race on his MX2
machine over France's Gautier
Paulin, Herlings, Australia's
Hunter Lawrence and the rest of
MXGP/MX2
The Nations format combines
the individual moto score of
each racer while dropping the
worst score out of six in an
Olympic scoring format, which
means that first place gets one
point, second gets two, etc. The
lowest score, after dropping out
the worst of the six scores on
the day, is crowned the MXoN
champ.
While the gates are handed
out from the inside to the outside
in qualifying order, it's up to the
teams to choose which racer
will get the gate farther to the
inside or the gate farther to the
outside, and Spain gambled by
putting their MX2 racer, Jorge
Prado, on the inside pick, which
resulted in a great start for
Prado, who was fighting for the
Aaron Plessinger
enjoyed his first
Motocross of
Nations but he
struggled on the
track.
