QUALIFYING
Things seemed to be leaning in
Team USA's favor on Saturday
morning. There's a drawing for
gate pick for the three qualify-
ing motos, and Team USA drew
number two, giving them the
second gate pick in all three of
the 20-minute-plus-two-lap quali-
fiers. This was a rule instituted
ally strong and I think that all the
European guys have put in great
rides. It's that strong, so really
happy about the day overall."
Managing expectations per-
haps proved the toughest thing
for Team USA. The pressure not
only of representing their coun-
try, but doing it in front of their
home crowd, along with me-
chanical issues and a failure to
adjust to what seemed to them
to be a completely different Red-
Bud racetrack from what they're
used to, left them scrambling
"Jordi [Tixier, in the Open class]
did the best he could and did a
great ride, and Dylan [Ferrandis,
MX2 class] also. We have had
a lot of judgment in the past
months because it has been a
tough selection. Anything can
happen every day. There was a
lot of judgment. Right now we
