for grabs in the final rounds, he could do it, as he currently has 470. "To go 1-1 this weekend, with the world championship, it is the perfect weekend," he stated on Sunday. "I will remember this forever." Davies' injured right arm was giving him grief at Magny Cours. His bike was not the package he needed it to be to take anything more than a battling second- place hold-up of Rea in race two, for half the race at least. Fourth on Saturday was an- other important result for Davies, as with the championship fight now definitely over, he has to try to hang onto second place overall, through Argentina and finally Qatar. He battled hard in race one, on a less cooperative bike than Sunday's, and finished fifth. Importantly he was two places ahead of Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK) on Saturday and one podium place ahead of him on Sunday. Rea, Davies and van der Mark made up the race-two podium, with Rea, Sykes and a resurgent top independent rider, Xavi Fores (Barni Racing) the race-one trio. In the championship fight, with Rea untouchable now, the new world champion has 470 points, Davies has 335, van der Mark 309, Sykes 273 and Melandri 250. WorldSSP Jules Cluzel (NRT Yamaha) was taken out of proceedings last race weekend in Portugal by Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha) but this weekend, in front of a partisan French crowd, Cluzel won by 1.7 seconds, after IN THE WIND P40 Markus Reiterberger will be the last person to win a Stock1000 title, as the championship closes down.
