2005-2006 FIM Amp'd Mobile World 5upercross GP Series My 84 OWN RACE Barry Carsten DNS Iron man Barry Carsten missed making the main by one position in his heat race, finishing in 10th, and then gated poorly in his semi and worked his way up (rom a midpack start to finish sixth, once again missing the main. The 40-year-old Suzuki rider gated (ourth in the LCQ and worked his way into third, missing the main by one position again. He did, however, win the Racer X Gas Card award for finishing third in the LCQ and being the top rider not to make the main event. 70 Jiri Dostal 19th Team SoCal's jiri Dostal had an up-and-down night after dropping out o( the main with mechanical problems following an II th-place finish in his heat and a third-place ride in his semi. "In the heat race, I kind of got together with Ryan Clark in the second corner," Dostal said. "He cut inside and I landed on him. But I got third in the semi, and the main was going good - I think I was in about II th place at about halfway - and then I made a little stupid mistake and crashed, and then I couldn't start my bike. I actually broke my clutch basket. So that's how my day went. It was going good up until that point." 83 Michael Young I5th Michael Young had a good night after transferring directly to the main from the first heat race with a ninth-place finish. And he did it on a borrowed Honda. "I came up here, basically with some suspension components, and we made this bike work," Young said. "I got a bad start in the main and dove under everyone in the first turn and ended up in a pretty good position. But then [Marco) Dube rolled a jump and threw up a truckload of dirt in my (ace, and that kind of threw my concentration off a little. I tried to regroup, but I pumped up and I just decided to try to finish." 48 Jeff Gibson 9th Honda rider jeff Gibson from Ohio had an impressive weekend, finishing third in his heat, behind Stewart and Carmichael, and then parlaying a decent start into a ninthplace finish in the main. "The main went pretty well for me," Gibson said. "I figured out a lot of stuff that I needed to know - I know I've got a lot more training to do. I'm a little out of shape. but I'm happy with the weekend. The track got a little rutty, but everybody's got to ride the same track." 32 Ryan Clark I 3th Team Solitaire.FIy Racing Honda's Ryan Clark survived a couple of crashes, one coming in a heat race and one early in the main event, to claim 13th in the final. "The start of the main, as is par for the course, was utter chaos," Clark said. '1ustin [Buckelew) was just ahead of me in ninth after the first rhythm section. I was ducking and weaving trying to advance in the field before it spread out too far. Halfway through the lap, I was exiting a corner when Heath Voss, perhaps trying to pass the rider behind me, drilled me almost head on. The result was a three-rider pileup with me on the bottom. Heath's bike was mangled, and he was unable to continue, but I remounted and did my best to make up (or lost time. The crash from practice seemed to take a little wind out of my sails, but I did muster 13th place in the main event." 44 Justin Buckelew justin Buckelew had a career-best eighth-place finish in the main event. Buckelew, now riding alongside Ryan Clark on the Solitaire/Fly Racing Honda team, found himself in the middle of the pack shortly after the start of the final. Buckelew, who qualified (or the main via a second-place finish in his semi, spent much of the race dicing with jason Thomas, Tyler Evans and jeff Gibson. 18 DECEMBER 14,2005 • CYCLE NEWS 8th
