VOL. 48 ISSUE 44 DECEMBER 13, 2011 P141 (Left) David Pearson wrapped up the 2011 BITD Championship after soloing to a second-place finish at the Henderson 250. (Below) Jason Trubey helped his team take the Over-30 Expertclass win. day and for the year with a time of 2:27:44. With three races to run consecutively throughout the day, promoter Casey Folks wasted no time in getting the bikes, ATVs and UTVs off the line starting at a dark, chilly 6:15 A.M., two every 30 seconds. Esposito led the parade into the desert, though he found the no-pre-run course a bit sketchy in the dark since he didn't have a headlight on the Hoosier Precision Machining/Precision Concepts/KLeN Laundry-backed KX450F. Nonetheless, he managed to stay in front and hand the bike over to Bell, who had more daylight to work with but still had to deal with an unfamiliar course his first time out. "I didn't expect it to be so wide open!" he said. "I must've been throttle to the stop 80 percent of the course. It was crazy. It was Briefly... Alex Kortepeter not only took his first win of the season, the Ironman Expert victor finished a commendable sixth bike overall on his Countrywide Estate Planning/ NCY/Scott USA CRF450X, completing the three laps in 2:40:43. Clint LaRue was just 1:19 behind in second with Sam Longson third, 1:10 behind LaRue. Longson earned the Ironman Expert number one plate, winning twice during the season. Next year's BITD season kicks off in five weeks with the THR Motorsports Parker 250 in Parker, Arizona, on January 7. For bikes, the series will feature five races, down from six this year. (Truck and buggy classes have six events, including a new one - the General Tire Mint 400 classic, which BITD recently acquired.) Despite the speedy course (or perhaps due to it), the finisher ratio was better than usual. Of the 68 teams to leave the start, only five DNFed. Purvines Racing earned three class championships (Open Pro with David Pearson/Carl Maassberg, Over 30 Pro with David Fry/Jason Trubey and Over-40 Pro with Scott Glimp) in its first year. Next year, the squad will field Kawasakis, once again going after BITD titles as well as AMA National Hare & Hound. Look for Jacob Argubright to be a Purvines Racing rider, team owner Ron Purvines promises. 140-143 Henderson 250.indd 141 12/12/11 1:48 PM
