SX OPENER
A
merican Justin Brayton cap-
tured the win in the opening
round of the Australian Super-
cross Championship at Jimboom-
ba in Queensland, September 16.
Brayton, the defending cham-
pion, started the main event off
in fifth, while Brett Metcalfe led
the way. Brayton quickly moved
his way to second place and
inherited the lead when Metcalfe
stalled his bike on the third lap.
From that point on, the race was
all Brayton's as he went on to win
the race over Metcalfe.
Third place went to Luke Clout
who started the race in 16th
place. He steadily worked his way
forward, grabbing third from Dan
Reardon on the 15th lap.
Reardon ended up fourth, fol-
lowed by Jace Owen.
Brayton wrote via Instagram: "It
takes a massive amount of support
and work to make it a reality for
my family and I to travel to Austra-
lia and race the @aussupercross
championship. Thank you so much
to all that are involved in making
it happen! Stoked to get the win
tonight!!
Three-time Australian Motocross
Champion Dean Ferris was injured
in a crash during the first heat race
and was transported to the hospital.
He reported on social media: As
most of you know I went down hard
at Jimboomba on the weekend.
I've been in the hospital since but
hopefully will be out in a day or two.
I suffered from a contusion to my
right lung so doctors are monitor-
ing it very closely. Everything else
seems to be clear. Thanks for all
the support and get well messages.
It's been a very long time since I
crashed and ended up in hospital—
not ideal but will still learn from it.
Australian Jay Wilson took the SX2
win ahead of Americans Bradley Taft
and Josh Osby. Hayden Mellross
was fourth and Jacob Hayes fifth.
Dakota Alix was sixth. CN
Justin Brayton won
the opening round
