ROAD RACE FIM WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 10 / SEPTEMBER 14-16, 2018 AUTODROMO INTERNACIONAL ADO ALGARVE / ALGARVE, PORTUGAL P76 Stock 1000 Third place from Markus Reiterberger (alpha Racing Van Zon BMW) in the Portimao race was not enough to give him the championship win a round early, as Roberto Tam- burini (Berclaz Racing team) scored the race victory to enter the final weekend of the series 18 points down, with 25 left to play for. Federico Sandi (Motocorsa Racing Ducati) was second. Maximilian Scheib (Aprilia Racing Team) is 19 points behind the lead, after finishing fifth. De Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse by Vamag) was third, his sixth podium in succession. Incidents and accidents abounded. Jules Cluzel (NRT Yamaha) was taken out by a fall during an attempted pass from championship leader Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha). Cortese got going again, Cluzel did not. Randy Krummenacher (Bardahl Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha) was a distant fourth. Cortese has 149 points after finishing fifth, Cluzel 133; Cari- casulo and Krummenacher are tied at 129. the winner, so he attempted to ride back to the pits, even with a fully flat tire. He fell off twice, but he got back to pit lane. He was classified as the winner until Race Direction ruled he had taken a shortcut via the shorter pit lane entrance. No finish, no win, no points, his championship dream in relative tatters. It was heartbreaking drama to witness. Caricasulo was awarded the race win, his second in succes- sion, energizing his champion- ship dream again. Kyle Smith (CIA Landlord Insurance Honda) was a happy and improving second, Raffaele Roberto Tamburini wrapped up the race and title with one round to spare.
