SEPTEMBER 21, 1988
Yamaha unveiled its all-new YZF-R6 which they claimed produced
120 horsepower out the door. It was featured on the cover 20 years
ago… We interviewed road racer Carlos Checa… We had coverage
of the AMA National Hot Shoe Series from Springfield, where Terry
Poovey beat out Ronnie Jones for the win… Sebastien Tortelli got
one stop closer to the FIM 250cc World Motocross Championship
after winning the penultimate round of the series at Roggenburg,
Switzerland.
We featured speedway racing on the cover of Cycle News 30
years ago. We covered the U.S. World Team Championship
from Long Beach, California, where the Danes edged out the
home team for the win… Also on the cover was a photo of Dan
Ingram who captured his first-ever national victory when he
won the Syracuse Mile… We covered all the happenings at the
Bonneville Speed Week… Sam Ermolenko finished fourth at
World Championship Individual
Speedway Final in Denmark.
