2019 SUZUKI RM-Z250
TECH DETAILS REVEALED
I
n July, Suzuki released photos
of the seemingly all-new 2019
RM-Z250 motocrosser but kept
details a secret—until now. Turns
out, the bike is, indeed, all-new
for 2019.
The new RM-Z250 took on
many of the same changes that
the RM-Z450 got last year, like
a new frame, coil-spring forks
and many major engine updates.
The 250 features a new cylinder
head that is claimed to offer bet-
ter throttle response and more
power, and a new dual injector
EFI system that Suzuki claims
increases performance through
the entire rev-range. The intake
camshaft profile is new, with
more valve lift, increasing power
at all engine speeds. There is a
new, high-flow exhaust system
that has a longer head-pipe,
tapered midsection, and a multi-
layer silencer. The new exhaust
system is said to have better flow
through the entire rev range, with
an emphasis on low-rpm perfor-
mance.
The frame and swingarm are
lighter; the swingarm alone is
more than a half-pound lighter
and the frame 0.8 pounds
lighter. Suspension sees major
updates—it gets an all-new KYB
shock and KYB coil-spring fork.
Brakes have been beefed up,
too, and the bike comes fitted
with new Dunlop MA33 tires.
Suzuki is still keeping the price
a secret and you'll have to wait a
little while if you want one. The
2019 RM-Z250 isn't expected to
hit showroom floors until Febru-
ary.
