Steward rode a steady race all day, including a rare win in the opening test of the day. And when his brother faltered, Stew- ard was in good position to take advantage of the situation. "Grant got out to a lead over me, but it started to get pretty rocky in the last few tests and that's when things started going my way," said Steward. "Those last two tests seemed to fall in my lap." Toth (FMF/KTM) was the best of the rest, finishing third ahead of Ben Kelley (Trail Jesters Rac- ing KTM). Both riders turned in solid performances, but not "Baylor Good." "I just didn't have anything for them," said Toth. "I felt like I was riding well, but my times just didn't show it." "I just felt kind of rusty in the sand," said Buttrick. "I gave up a little bit of time in those first few tests just trying to get my feet back up under me, but the rest of the day I felt pretty good." Solid Performance Racing's Ryder Lafferty (eight-time Champ Michael Lafferty's nephew) topped the NE Pro2 division with a seventh overall finish ahead of Russell Bobbitt (Granly Routes KTM). Nathan Ferderer (KTM) was ninth overall and second in the NE Pro2 class, while Nick Fahringer (Sherco USA) rounded out the top 10. Thad Duvall (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) had a disappointing day. A rock knocked a hole in his side case and he was forced to drop out near the start of the sixth test. Mackenzie Tricker (Trail Jest- ers KTM Racing) was victori- ous in the Women's Elite class, beating out Tayla Jones (KR4 Husqvarna) by 35 seconds.
