ROUND 1/JANUARY 5, 2013
ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM/ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
SUPERCROSS
P48
MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM CHAMP
Trey Canard (41)
and Millsaps spent
much of the final
this close.
with third, especially after qualifying outside the top 10. "I felt
really nervous coming into this
weekend," he said. "I actually
didn't ride too consistent today,
qualified 12th, which is horrible
for me. We made some suspension changes right before the
heat race and also again before
the main, the bike ended up handling really good and came away
with the podium."
Also running up front for a while
was another TLD rider, Christian
Craig. He was putting in a good
ride until he slid out. He would
eventually finish 12th.
The real race was for sixth
through 10th. Valli Yamaha's Tra-
vis Baker, Rockstar Energy's
Ryan Sipes, Suzuki rider Max
Anstie, Rattray, GEICO Honda's
Zach Osborne and privateer Honda rider Michael Leib all made up
this scrap, which kept the capacity crowd very much entertained.
For a while, Leib, on the Rocket
Exhaust Honda, looked to have
the advantage but coming out on
top of this swarm of riders was
250 veteran Ryan Sipes in sixth.
Osborne, who was making his
first full-time Supercross start
since returning from the GP circuit, appeared to be the one rider
who really had a chance of giving
his teammate a race. He was fast
in qualifying and finished second
to Davalos in his heat race, but
when the gate dropped for the
main, he got caught on Tomac
down the start straight and started way back in the pack. Riding
smooth and consistent, he was
able to catch the mid-pack battle
and eventually finish an impressive seventh, right behind Sipes.
Rattray ended up eighth, followed by Anstie and Leib. CN
