ROUND 8 / AUGUST 24-26, 2018
PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL RACE COMPLEX / WAMPUM, PENNSYLVANIA
P74
MOTOAMERICA ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
Beach could only manage
fourth on the grid behind pole-
sitter Gillim, M4 ECSTAR Su-
zuki's Valentin Debise and the
impressive Bryce Prince (Rider-
zlaw Racing/KWR Yamaha), and
indeed that's where he finished
after Debise pulled a 0.819-sec-
ond win over Gillim and first-time
podium man Prince.
Debise was looking good for
a second win in race two for
Chris Ulrich's team until he had
a monster crash while in third.
The Suzuki GSX-R600 bucked
the Frenchman off on lap three,
slamming him hard into the
tarmac and out of the race.
Debise eventually returned to
his feet after the bike-destroying
crash, but was transported to a
(Scheibe Racing BMW S 1000
RR), Wyman, Anthony and Max
Flinders (Thrashed Bike Racing
Yamaha YZF-R1).
In the championship, Beau-
bier is still sitting pretty at the
top with 329 points, 56 clear
of Elias. Herrin is third on 228,
Scholtz fourth on 190 and Gerl-
off fifth with 177.
SUPERSPORT
JD Beach (Monster Energy/
Yamaha Extended Service/
Graves/Yamaha) needs to gain
only two points over Hayden
Gillim (Rickdiculous Racing
Yamaha) to take a second Mo-
toAmerica Supersport Champi-
onship after going 4-1 in the two
races at Pittsburgh.
"It was crazy," Elias said of
the final lap. "I'm really proud of
the moves these two [Cameron
Beaubier and Josh Herrin] are
doing during this season be-
cause I think there's not many
championships you can see this
show. Some days it falls on my
side, and other days on his side.
So, everybody is there to try to
win. It was amazing."
Herrin was 7.7 seconds be-
hind winner Elias for a double
podium, cementing his third
place in the championship.
Lewis was just under one sec-
ond from Herrin's back wheel
in fourth, Scholtz just over a
second from Lewis' rear Dun-
lop, with the top 10 rounded
out by Fong, Danny Eslick
Hayden Gillim (69) leads the field
away from the start of race two.
Valentin Debise (53) would end his
meeting in the ambulance.
