promoters also had commercial
reservations.
Miller speaks
his mind
MotoGP didn't get beyond one
sighting lap, run in falling rain,
with riders almost unanimous in
saying that that track was unride-
able. Rossi spoke for many when
turned the 12th of 19 rounds
into a non-event. No points for
anybody. It was as if it had never
happened. Because essentially it
hadn't.
Discussions about postponing
it until Monday came to naught,
partly because some teams had
testing commitments, and the
and red-flagged after four laps,
with half-points awarded. The
250 race was also troubled, and
cut from 20 laps to 13.
Then a heavy rainstorm hit just
as the late-night main MotoGP
race was about to begin. After
delays and equivocation, the
race was abandoned but then
postponed to run the following
evening. Casey Stoner won it.
The previous year, the first race
at Indianapolis was hit by Hurri-
cane Ike. Both the 125cc and the
MotoGP races were shortened,
the latter red-flagged as chunks
of debris blew across the track,
and the subsequent 250 race
was abandoned.
The other cancellation was in
Malaysia in 2011, where the Mo-
toGP race was stopped after the
second lap, and not restarted.
The reason was dark: Marco Si-
moncelli had crashed on lap two,
and was fatally injured.
The British Sunday stoppage
The tractor was the only
one who completed more
than one lap on Sunday.
Johann Zarco leaves the safety meeting unimpressed with Silverstone.
