MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL/AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 12 / AUGUST 25, 2018 IRONMAN RACEWAY / CRAWFORDSVILLE, INDIANA P52 iii My Own Race: 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 3RD 450MX (4-3) "It was very tough conditions," Marvin Musquin said. "We had a lot of rain in the morning and I didn't get a good start in the first moto, so it was really tough for me to get into the speed of the top guys. The second half of the moto was a lot better, I found my groove and better lines but unfortunately it just wasn't enough and I got fourth. The second moto, I got a better start and I battled back to third place, so another podium, yeah, but definitely not what I wanted today. I expected a little bit more to be honest. I got second in the championship, so it's a good year overall—I was more consistent and got more podiums but the competition was definitely really high this year." Musquin ended the year second in points and never finished outside the top five. In fact, he only finished fifth in a moto once, and then scored five fourth-place finishes, three thirds, 10 seconds, and five moto wins in the 24 motos run. 36 RJ HAMPSHIRE 2ND 250MX (4-3) RJ Hampshire really picked it up in the last half of the series, then went 1-2 overall in the last two races of the year. "It's awesome," Hampshire said. "Huge thanks to the team. They believed in me all year. It's just something clicked! The faith is strong and I never backed down this season. To finish the season with a 1-2 [first place at Budds Creek a week earlier, and second at Ironman], and I think I was fourth or fifth overall in the series. With how up- and-down things went, I'll take it." Hampshire ended up fourth in points. 40 CHASE SEXTON 3RD 250MX (2-6) Chase Sexton also came on in the last half of the series, snatching two podium finishes in the final two rounds. "We made a lot of bike improvements coming into Washougal this year," Sexton said. "From there on, I felt really good. That moto slipped away from me. I should've been 2-2 today. I was kind of catching Aaron a bit, but I fell six times that second moto. So, it was a rough one that second moto, but it's nice to end up on the podium." Sexton ended up sixth in the points standings. 31 COLT NICHOLS 4TH 250MX (8-2) Colt Nichols (Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha) ended the series strong with his best moto and overall finish of the year. "I got blessed with a few little gifts out there," Nichols said. "Two years in a row, Chase Sexton was in front of me and crashed out of third, and RJ crashed out of second. I just tried to ride behind Aaron. It was pretty cool two Star Racing bikes going 1-2, but it just sucks that the season's over now after I had my best race. But I'll take it any way I can get it. It was an awesome day." Nichols ended up 13th in points after missing the first four rounds with injuries. 94 KEN ROCZEN 2ND 450MX (3-2) Ken Roczen never quite got the overall win he was looking for during the 2018 450MX Nationals, but he won a couple motos and ended the series third in points. At Ironman, he went 3-2 for second overall. "The conditions were tough," Roczen said. "The track was a lot better in the second moto, actually. I pulled off a decent start and I felt pretty good in the beginning, and we kind of yo-yo'd [with Justin Barcia]. I didn't know where I could make the pass, and I didn't want to get roosted really bad, so I was kind of staying back a little bit. Then a few lappers kind of put a gap in between us, but I knew if I was going to finish second, it was going to be enough for third in the championship."
