W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G "…People used to do things. Now, they're all perfectly satisfied by watching a few other people do things…" Hurley Wilvert, R.I.P. Damn nice guy—solid racer and good fellow. R.I.P. Hurley Wilvert Joe Weinroth A quality gentleman who will be missed. Jim Cooper CN Archives Although I am not really a fan, there is a U2 song called, "Even Better Than The Real Thing." Why is it that so much of what you, Cycle News, have in your archives is so much better than what we see now? Why are memories so much better than the real thing? Actually, its because people used to do things. Now, they're all perfectly satisfied by watching a few other people do things, mostly on their phone, or iPad or laptop, from the comfort of their mortgaged couch. People used to buy bikes and ride them. And the ones that thought they were good would try racing. And the ones that were good at racing usually ended up in Cycle News. Then, years later, Cycle News would dig through their incredible Archives (thank you, thank you, thank you) and share them with the world again. And those of us that re- member when they originally appeared in Cycle News get to, in a way, relive that time and all the other things that were going on at the time. And, as a result, it becomes "Even Better Than The Real Thing!" One more time, I just want to say thank you to Cycle News for being there then, being there now, and for never throwing anything away. Mac Mclemore Team Puerto Rico Travis is good people and dirt bike riders are the best. KJ Llewen Can I be a part of the team? What a hoot! Robert Laroque Super! Great idea to help Puerto Rico. Edd Price Fast Eli Damn, Eli is freaking fast right now! Can't wait to see him and Herlings go at it [at the Moto- cross of Nations]. Hopefully, he can stay healthy and fast for the Nations. Roczen is showing the world that he is a truly unique and tremendous athlete, with epic natural ability, but also heart beyond measure. There aren't many athletes like him. I remember comment boards lighting up with predictions of his retirement only a year ago, especially whenever pictures of his T-Rex arm(s) popped up online! He looked great Saturday, looks like he found his smooth [style] again. The 2019 SX champ! Howard Halterman Henry Wiles: Peoria TT That's cool, Hank. Heck, I know people that can't even count to 14! Ricky Main Throwback Thursday: Road America That was a great race, Doug Polen and Pascal Picotte picking off riders on each lap between turns five and six. Picotte was side by side with Edwards into turn six, nei- ther letting off the throttle; it seemed they had taken each other out. I can still hear the sound coming from under the bridge, Polen wheelies the whole hill on victory lap with his left thumb out the whole way. Every time I go to Road America I stand in the same spot I was that day and remem- ber Polen's remarkable race. Bill Wren Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
