MOTOCROSS
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS
ROUND 11 / AUGUST 18, 2018
BUDDS CREEK, MARYLAND / BUDDS CREEK RACEWAY
P62
Tomac took the lead with a
handful of laps to go, and just
as things seemed to be calm-
ing down, Baggett caught fire.
With five laps to go, Baggett
passed first Musquin and then
Roczen in consecutive laps to
take over second, then put in
the race's only lap in the 2:06s
with two laps to go in the race
to get close to Tomac.
But it was too little, too late,
as Tomac took the win over
Baggett, Roczen, Musquin and
Barcia, who made a last-lap
pass on Nicoletti to steal the
top-five finish away.
Thanks to Baggett's late-
race performance in moto two,
Tomac took the overall ahead
of Roczen and Musquin while
Baggett was fourth on the day.
moto after a very solid sixth in moto
one. Smith went down in the first turn
in moto two along with Dylan Fer-
randis (Monster Energy/Yamalube/
Star Racing Yamaha) and Cameron
McAdoo (Geico Honda), among
others, and pulled off the track a few
laps later while appearing to favor his
right shoulder. Ferrandis came back
for 10th in the moto, and McAdoo
was chasing him the whole way, end-
ing up a very solid 12th despite the
first-turn melee.
GRANT OUT
After racing just the first moto at
Washougal, Josh Grant (Monster
Energy Kawasaki) hasn't shown back
up to a national since, but he indi-
cated on his Instagram page that the
broken leg he suffered during super-
cross is still not healed well enough
for him to race at 100-percent, so
he's taking his time to fully recover.
He's out for the rest of the year. His
future with the team is in question as
of now.
RUSSELL 1 AND DONE
After an impressive pro-MX debut
at Unadilla that saw KTM's five-time
GNCC champ Kailub Russell finish
sixth in the first moto before going
down in the second one, Russell
decided that was enough, at least
for 2018. He's still beat up from the
crash and since the foray into MX
was mainly just for fun, he didn't think
it was smart to try and race through
injuries, as it could just get worse and
he's still got his "day job" as an FMF
KTM GNCC champ.
Briefly...
Justin Barcia (51) was fast in both 450MX motos but continues
to struggle to maintain the pace. He ended up going 6-5.
