ROAD RACE
ROUND 7 / AUGUST 10-12, 2018
SONOMA RACEWAY / SONOMA, CALIFORNIA
P84
MOTOAMERICA ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
THE BUSIEST MAN
IN RACING
Oregon resident Andy DiBrino
was racing at Sonoma in the
Stock 1000 category on his
Yamaha YZF-R1. That fact may
have not been all that remarkable
except for the news it was his
third race meeting in two weeks
in three different disciplines.
DiBrino had earlier finished 23rd
in the Washougal Pro Motocross
national 125cc All Star event
(won by Ryan Villopoto) on his
personal Honda CR. Follow-
ing this he finished 12th in the
Singles class at the Buffalo Chip
in the Sturgis TT on Monday
aboard his Husqvarna FC 450,
and won the Super Hooligan flat
track at Sturgis the next day on
a Harley-Davidson XG750. He
then trekked to Sonoma for the
Stock 1000 race at what for him
is his MotoAmerica home round.
"It's been a busy time, to say the
least," smiled the Oregon man.
"I had to do all my wrenching in
Sturgis, so that was stressful, but
to get some good results like that
was great. I'm definitely due for a
rest, though!"
BEAUBIER'S BRAKES
Cameron Beaubier was sport-
ing a hand-operated rear brake
lever on his Monster Energy/
Graves Yamaha YZF-R1, one that
had a few people in the paddock
chatting. "I've never been a huge
rear-brake user but it's helping
just to settle the bike a bit more."
Beaubier used it to good effect,
breaking Ben Spies' 10-year-old
lap record in Superpole with a
1:34.071, topping the session. In-
cidentally, South Africa's Mathew
Scholtz was also under the lap
record with a 1:34.485.
Briefly...
Josh Herrin (2) and
Toni Elias (1) had some
entertaining scraps in
the two races.
