HICKMAN, HARRISON SHINE AT
ULSTER GRAND PRIX
T
he 2018 Ulster Grand Prix, held at the Dundrod circuit
in Northern Ireland, was cut short by bad weather
conditions with only three laps completed in the premier
Superbike event on Saturday, August 11.
Isle of Man Senior TT and lap record holder Peter
Hickman (BMW) etched his name further into the history
books, claiming the shortened Superbike race win from
Honda's Lee Johnston and Australia's David Johnson, the
latter on the ultra-exclusive BMW HP Race in a first-time
podium for the machine.
The lanky Connor Cummins proved height is no barrier
in the junior Supersport class, taking the first win on the
Padgetts' Honda CBR600RR from Kawasaki riders Adam
McLean and Dean Harrison. Hickman would, however,
get revenge in race two, taking the gold ahead of Lee
Johnston and Cummins.
In the Superstock race, it would be Harrison's turn to
top the podium on the Silkolene Racing Kawasaki ZX-
10R, edging out Hickman by 0.203 seconds with Cum-
mins third.
The 2018 Ulster Grand Prix once again saw U.S. rider
Patricia Fernandez take part in the Supersport and Superbike events. The Mo-
toAmerica regular took 27th in the Superbike race on her Magic Bullet Motorsport
Kawasaki ZX-10R, 31st in Superstock, an excellent 15th in the first Supersport
race and 27th again in the second Supersport encounter.
Unfortunately, the meeting was marred by the death of long-time Ulster Grand
Prix competitor, Frenchman Fabrice Miguet, after he crashed in the Superstock
event. CN
