VOL. 55 ISSUE 32 AUGUST 14, 2018 P103 Cory Texter took the spot and headed off in pursuit of his sister. Throughout the first half of the race Wells was able to keep the lead by the small- est of margins, but on lap nine Shayna Texter was able to take over and her lead grew to almost a full second at the end of the race. "I love coming here. They did a great job prepping it and giving us some moisture, so you can work it and chase it." Jared Mees agreed, saying, "I've been coming here consistently since 2014 or 2015. Bryan [Smith] and I had one heck of a race here in 2016. The track has been good here for a long time now." WHAT'S THE POINT? The points race in the AFT Twins class is hard to call a "race," as Jared Mees has decimated the field. Mees now holds a commanding 102-point lead over Henry Wiles. With five races remaining on the schedule there are only 125 points available. Even with Wiles being the favorite to win his 14th consecutive Peoria TT, it is not likely that he will make much of a dent in Mees' advantage. HE'S GOT A POINT— 49 OF THEM In the AFT Singles class Dan Bromley holds a 49-point lead over Ryan Wells who is 17 points ahead of Shayna Tex- ter. While Texter has never fared well at Peoria, Bromley's best finish was a sec- ond in 2013 and Wells gained a third in 2014. Defending class champion Kolby Carlile is 76 points off the lead. BACK IN THE FRAY While injuries have hampered 2016 AFT Twins champion Bryan Smith, he is easing his way back into the fray. "I'm healed up. My ankle feels great after that," said Smith. "This was a physical and fast track that I had to use my foot a few times to hold myself up. It feels fine; knock on wood. The jury is still out on Peoria. I will see how the ankle feels tomorrow. I'd rather be healthy for these ovals. I have a way better shot at winning one of these things as opposed to Peoria. I did get fourth there last year, but the chance of something bad going wrong are very high for me there. Two years ago, I crashed. We'll see." Briefly... Ryan Wells took a solid second place in the Singles class.
