HASLAM, BROOKES SHARE
THRUXTON BSB WINS
R
ound seven of the 2018 Brit-
ish Superbike Championship
was held at Thruxton, August
4-5, and saw Leon Haslam
(Kawasaki) and Josh Brookes
(Yamaha) share the wins, with
Haslam increasing his champi-
onship lead to 82 points over
Jake Dixon (Kawasaki).
Haslam got the better of Dixon
and Peter Hickman (BMW), who
had just checked himself out
of hospital with a kidney infec-
tion, in race one, as Brookes
engaged in a last-lap, last-corner
lunge on Jason O'Halloran
(Honda) that saw both riders
off the track. Brookes regained
fourth position at the finish line,
but O'Halloran was dropped
to sixth and made his feelings
well known on the slowdown
lap as he gave the middle finger
to Brookes before entering the
pits.
In race two, Brookes would
take the early advantage and
eventually hold off a charging
Hickman at the flag. Dixon got
the better of Haslam for the final
podium place with Tarran Mack-
enzie (Yamaha) in fifth.
In the combined GP2/Super-
sport class, Kyle Ryde (GP2,
Kalex) took the first race win
from teammate Josh Owens and
Supersport-class victory Ben
Currie (Kawasaki) with American
James Rispoli (Yamaha) taking
fifth. In race two, Currie lost
the front in the run to the final
chicane and took Ryde out with
him, handing a 12-second victory
to Owens from Jack Kennedy
(Yamaha) and Rispoli in third.
The Motostar (Moto3) races
were won by Storm Stacey
(KTM) and Jack Scott (KTM).
America's Brandon Paasch (Ma-
hindra) took seventh- and eighth-
places finishes. CN
