Cal Rayborn was pictured on the cover of
Cycle News 50 years ago after he won his
fifth AMA National Championship Road Race
at Indianapolis. Rayborn and Yvon Duhamel
expected to battled to the checkered flag but
Duhamel's bike quite due to an ignition failure…
Carlsbad Raceway was the place to be for
motocross. John DeSoto, Tom Rapp and
Lars Larson were just some of the big names
taking part in the latest CMC MX races at the
venue… Dusty Coppage snapped Skip Van
Leeuwen's TT win streak at Ascot Park.
AMA's land-use specialist Rob Rasor was pictured on the cover 40 years
ago. We featured an interview with Rasor discussing the Forest Service
RARE II act that could close millions of acres of off-road riding… We
covered the Santa Fe Short Track won by Steve Eklund. Chuck Joyner
continued to dominate the Peoria TT after recording his fourth straight
win there… Warren Reid (125cc) and Rick Burgett (500cc) won the
AMA/Mr. PiBB 125/250cc National MX round in Escoheag, Rhode
Island… Barry Sheene won the Swedish Grand Prix.
