MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 9 / JUNE 28, 2018 WASHOUGAL MX PARK / WASHOUGAL, WASHINGTON P66 Musquin worked his way through from the tail end of the top five and Tomac came from outside the top 10. It only took four laps for Tomac to get up to fifth place, but by then Musquin was second and Roczen was walking away with the moto win. To complicate matters, Tomac went down just after he had moved past Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV-MC KTM) and Justin Barcia (Monster En- ergy Yamaha) to sit third, six laps into the race. He lost third to Barcia tem- porarily, but took it back a few laps later and then dropped the hammer. On laps 10 and 11, Tomac's lap times were in the 2:14s, with lap 11's 2:14.395 over two seconds faster than the fastest lap set by any other racer on the track. And at that point in the race, those 2:14s were three to four seconds per lap faster than Musquin in second and Roczen out front. As he blew by Musquin on lap 12 of 16, Tomac slowed a little bit as he began fighting to fix his pants, which had come undone—prob- ably from the sheer violence of his pace around the Washougal circuit. Tomac quickly caught Roczen out front and passed him for the lead as they got the two-lap board. Tomac went on to win the moto 2.275 seconds ahead of Roczen, followed by another six seconds ahead of Musquin, Barcia and Baggett. "That was unbelievable!" Tomac said. "After the fall, I was like, 'Maybe I can get to second.' I wasn't thinking [about] the win. To make it there was crazy, really. I felt really good after halfway. I don't know where I crashed, but once I got going, I got a good pace in there and made my way to the front. I had some good lines that second moto there and was just cranking it out." Tomac took the overall win with a 1-1 score over Roczen's 3-2 and Musquin's 2-3. Then came Barcia's 5-4 and Baggett's 6-5. Tomac now leads Musquin in the championship by 15 points, 401-386, with three rounds left to run. Roczen is 36 points behind Musquin in third but is tied with Barcia at 330 points apiece. his leg, Tyler Bowers—known for his many arenacross championships and supercross successes—showed up at Washougal on a Triggr/Rut- ted/AHM Factory Services KX450F and went 15-9 for 11th overall. RV GOES HOME Ryan Villopoto was the Grand Marshal of the Washougal National this year, and he also participated in the 125cc two-stroke race, which he won after battling early with Mike Brown. Brown finished second and Wil Hahn was third. "It's been awe- some," Villopoto said. "Being back up in the Pacific Northwest and actually racing in front of the crowd that watched me grow up is really cool, and to do it on a level that's fun and not a whole lot of stress is even better. Me and Brownie had a pretty good battle going on." SEELY SOON Cole Seely (Honda HRC) has spent the past few months recovering from a broken pelvis he suffered during Supercross. The injury normally takes six months to fully heal, which means he's about to start riding again. "I'm just past the five-month mark, and I'm aiming for that six-month mark when I can get back on the bike and start training and get ready for next year," Seely said. Seely had considered hanging up his boots after the injury, but he did some soul-searching and has decided he has a lot left to prove in professional racing. He's expected to be retained by Honda for 2019. Briefly...
