IN THE WIND P38 HAYES HEADED TO AUSTRALIA A renacross Champion Jacob Hayes has his sights set on the 2018 Australian Super- cross Championship, which gets underway in Jimboomba, Queensland, September 1. Hayes was left without a title to defend—and a team—when it was announced that the AMA Aren- across championship wouldn't continue after the 2018 season. Hayes, the '18 AX champ, is still figuring out his options for 2019 but will, at least, try his luck Down Under. A good perfor- mance there might open up some doors here for 2019. Hayes will ride a YZ250F for the Australian Serco Yamaha Team. "I have never been to Australia but from what I see it's a beautiful country and I'm really excited to get this opportunity to race down there with Serco Yamaha," he said. "I have followed the cham- pionship in Australia for a few years now and see that is grow- ing. Australia certainly has pro- duced some world-class riders over the years and I look forward to racing the next generation of riders and experiencing a new place and culture. "Serco Yamaha have been great to deal with and their track record in Australia is amazing. It's great to know I can go to a new country, ride for one of the best teams and be a part of a championship that has produced so many good riders. It's going to be epic and I can't wait." CN MV AGUSTA MOTO2 BREAKS COVER M V Agusta will return to Grand Prix competition for the first time in 42 years when they team with Forward Racing for the 2019 Moto2 World Championship. The team's arrival in the Grand Prix paddock will coincide with the arrival of Triumph's Street Triple 765 three-cylinder motor as the control engine supplier for the class. Triumph will replace Honda and their four-cylinder CBR600RR motor, who have controlled the Moto2 grid since 2010. "I am really proud to see the dream to rejoin the motor- cycling World Championship come true," said MV Agusta CEO, Giovanni Castiglioni. "I would like to thank all our engineers, technicians and designers, plus the staff of the Forward Racing Team for hav- ing carried out this project in such a short amount of time. Of course, there is still a lot of work ahead of us, but step by step we will improve our competitiveness." No riders have been con- firmed yet for MV Agusta's return. CN If this thing goes as good as it looks, the rest of the Moto2 paddock are in trouble.
