ROAD RACE ROUND 6 / JULY 20-22, 2018 UTAH MOTORSPORTS CAMPUS / TOOLE, UTAH P88 MOTOAMERICA ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP STOCK 1000 The Stock 1000 encounter saw a first-time winner in his first-ever MotoAmerica race. Chad Lewin (Team Lewin Estates Yamaha) turned in a sensational effort for a man who says he's only ridden a bike "about four times in the last three years." The California real estate agent took the win over series leader Andrew Lee (Riderzlaw Racing Kawasaki ZX-10R) and local hotshot Oleg Pianykh. Regular race winner and pole sitter Travis Wyman (Weir Everywhere Racing BMW S 1000 RR) led much of the race before crashing unhurt and rejoining to cross the finish line in seventh. As a result, Lee now has a 21-point lead iii My Own Race: 11 MATHEW SCHOLTZ 6-4 SUPERBIKE "Saturday's race didn't pan out the way we wanted it to," said Mathew Scholtz of his weekend. "But, we knew where we needed to make the bike better. Overnight, my crew worked really hard, and they came up with a good setup. The Sunday morning warm-up went really great, and we ended up second fastest. We knew we had a good pace, and we were confident for the second race. My start was absolutely shocking, but I made a few passes on the first lap, and I got into the group that was fighting for third. We had a race-long battle, and there weren't too many passes because the pace was so high, and everyone was part of the train. Garrett (Gerloff) and (Jake) Lewis managed to gap Roger Hayden, and I managed to pass Roger with two laps to go. I kind of did close the gap to Lewis and Gerloff, but we ran out of laps. Overall, I'm very happy with the prog- ress we made and the fact that we moved back into third place in the championship." 53 VALENTIN DEBISE DNS-2 SUPERSPORT "The problem was my own fault because I crashed this morning trying to put in a fast lap," Valentin Debise said of his Saturday DNS. "When you crash sometimes there are consequences, and that's what happened today. My mechanics did everything they could to repair the bike but it's almost impossible to check and fix everything on the bike in so little time. Yeah, I'm disappointed, but there's another race tomorrow and everyone saw that I'm fast this weekend. I won't give up." 1 TONI ELIAS 1-DNF SUPERBIKE "It is an honor to be a part of this historic win," Elias said of Suzuki's 200th AMA Super- bike victory. "To be there along with all of the great riders who have won with Suzuki in the past means a lot to me. This was a team effort and I also want to thank the entire Yoshimura Suzuki team for working so hard to give me a great motorcycle. This is a day I will long remember." Chad Lewin (448) promptly took an unexpected victory in the Stock 1000 class.
