way, it was still McNeil standing atop the podium
in the end. McNeil proved to be the fan favorite in
years past, as well as the judge's favorite this year.
In the all-new QuarterPipe competition, it was
21-year-old Axell Hodges who left the high mark,
sailing to a height of 34 feet, three inches to take
the gold ahead of Colby Raha and Tyler Bereman.
For Hodges, who missed last year's event due to
injury, it marked a welcome return to the Summer
X Games. CN
MISCHLER FINDS
HARLEY HOOLIGAN
GOLD
T
he 48-rider field in the Harley Hooligan Racing class
at the X Games Minneapolis, July 22, was trimmed to
just six riders for the main event, and when all was said
and done, Dan Mischler came away with the win.
Benny Carlson got things started with the holeshot
in the 15-lap main, with Jimmy Hill and Dave Kilkenny
on his rear tire. As the field exited turn four on the first
lap, Kilkenny got just a little too wide and slid down. He
quickly picked up his bike and pushed it out the turn-four
gate and the race continued.
Mischler was working his way through and had second at the end
of the first lap. Hill, Brad Spencer and Chris Boone formed a line
right behind. It became a four-rider battle when Boone fell midrace.
Carlson left just enough of an opening that Mischler charged
through bringing Hill with him.
Carlson was just able to get the door closed on Spencer and
the medal winners were set. Gold went to Mischler with silver and
bronze going to Hill and Carlson.
