BRADL IN FOR
MORBIDELLI
German former MotoGP rider Ste-
fan Bradl made a popular transition
from broadcasting booth to pit box
halfway through the first day of free
practice at the Sachsenring—and
impressed by slotting into 21st place
out of 25 in qualifying, finishing 16th
in the race. Bradl, who finished
fourth here in 2013, had started
the first day as an expert analyst
for German TV, but was standing
by to step into the EG-VDS team,
should Franco Morbidelli find it all
too much.
BINDER IN FOR
ANOTHER YEAR
The day before he claimed his first
Moto2 victory, former Moto3 Cham-
pion Brad Binder's future with the
Red Bull KTM team had been as-
sured, with the South African signed
up to stay with the team in 2019 for
a third season in the middle class.
Binder had a troubled start last
year, carrying troublesome injuries
after breaking his arm in tests at the
end of 2016. The injury was slow to
heal, needing two extra operations
before he was back to full strength
at the end of last year, claiming
three podium finishes. Binder said,
"I feel we still have unfinished busi-
ness in Moto2, and great improve-
ments to make. It motivates me to
have a whole factory supporting me
again." It will be his fifth season with
the official Ajo-run team.
