The 600cc class, as always, was very fast, and in the first round, Brent Bowman nailed a ve ry qu ick 2.751-secon d ru n o n his Gayle jen kins/Revloc Honda to set t he earl y fast time . In the 750cc class, howe ver, j aso n Northr up w as wait ing wi t h his 750cc Kawasaki triple, and he flew it screaming ove r the top in 2.725 seconds to take the fast time into interm ission. Northrup had had tw o very fast ride s missed by the clock at White City t he week be fore, and he was primed to win on e. In t he second half, Jon Cree k nearly se t a new time with a very impressive 2.744-second run o n his Ho nda, but it w as " Fast Andy " Fortner, the last rider in the 600cc class, who sailed his Honda over the to p in a breathtaking 2.627 se co nd s t o set the new fas t t ime . Northrup attacked the hill w ith a full-throttle assault on his triple and also bettered his firstround time with a 2.682-second run - not quite good enough to overtake Fortner. N o rthru p made his e ven ing mo re worthw hile by making it a dou ble-w in event with a J .l la-second class-win ning run in the O pe n class on his I220cc Yamaha. Matt Peters was a tripIe-<:Iass winner: His first came in the 200cc class, in which he posted a 4. I65-second time on a KDX200 for the win, ahead of the current points leader Gordon Green, who posted a 4.25 I-second time on his KDX. Peters returned on his CR250 and wa s a convincing winner in the 250cc class, flyingover the top in 2.934 seconds on his first ride - the first rider to bre ak into the twos. His closest cha llenger was jar ed McKay, who posted a 3.154-second run on his YZ250 . Peters' th ird win came in the 450cc class.
