Grant Morela nd and Andrew Jackson traded moto wins in the l 25cc JUNE 16, 2004 ��� CYCLE NEWS B Stock class , which prod uced some o f the best racing 01 the day. With nearly 55 riders each fighting lor a spot on the 40-man gate for the qualifier racing was . fie rce . In qualifie r tw o, Zach Am e s topped Andrew Ba ke r a nd Ale x Hotchkiss after the t hree riders waged an allout war up fro n t . Klinton Silvey and Dane Marsac k rounded out the top flve. setti ng the lineup lor the 12Scc B Stock final. Moreland, Jackson , Ames, Koster and W ill Hicks led the charge off the gate in moto two. Jackson d idn't make the trip fro m Westlake Village Calilomia, to finish second, so he went to , work on the back wheel 01 Mo re land's Cemic's RM, and before lap tw o w as in the books , Jackson was lead ing the fight. Moreland wasn't going to let the last kid lrom the Left Coast steel a win from him on his own turl, so he went wide and fast down the world's longest tabletop to take bac k the lead. Erickson he ld down t hird place , but he was getting all kinds of pressure 40th Anniversary lrom the likes 01 Koster, Ames and Hotch kiss. Jackson was allover Mo re land's rear wheel, looking for a place to make a pass that wou ld stick. O n more t han one co rn e r, th ese two speedsters came flying in side by side like a pair 01 low-flying Blue Ange ls. Ames, Hotchkiss and Koster were all railing berms and trad ing paint. hoping to get a shot at the last boys up Iront before it was too late to make a play for the win. With just a lap to go, Moreland got a great d rive in the black d irt section out back and put some distance between himsell and Jackson. Try as he might, Jackso n ( 1-2) couldn't close the gap and lollowed More land (2. 1) home, wh ich was good enough to q ualify but not the finish that he wanted. Third place went to Erickson (3- 3), who held off Koster (4 -4) and Ames ( 1-5). As the day came to an end and the bikes were being washed up for the next day's action, m ic man larry Witmer was filling in the huge crowd on the th ird annual Log Road MX Great Lakes Championships (July 9-1 I), broug ht you by the good lolks at MCR Suspension, Albion Ford and Championsh ip Powersports.
