Ketelsen was the general manager of Heyser Cycle for 25 years. The JK Memorial 100 Poker Run will be held in his honor on Sunday, March 14, beginning at Heyser Cycle in Laurel. Yamaha's World Superbike team tested at Phillip Island in Australia, January 19-21, with Noriyuki Haga lapping the circuit at 1:35.6 on the final day of the test on the new R7. Haga's teammate, Italian Vittoriano Guareschi, lapped at a best of I :37.1. "I am very happy with the chassis, but I think there is even more to come from this area," Haga said. "At Eastern Creek, where the track is very twisty, I found it reacted very well. Here at Phillip Island, it has been more difficult to judge." Phillip Island was recently resurfaced, and both riders complained that it offered less grip than in previous years. Troy Corser qualified on pole position for last year's World Superbike opener at Phillip Island with a 1:34.971. AMA 750cc Supersport National Cham- pion Richard Alexander Jr. will be appearing with other members of the STAR Motorcycle School at Showcase Bike ight at the Speedway international Bar & Bistro in Newport Beam, Cali- Dave Rosno's Visionsports Riders School will offer Fasttrax by Visionsports at Blackhawk Farms in Rockton, illinois, on four separate dates in 1999: April 6, May 20, July 7 and September 23. Fat Boy Racing's Nick Daniels conducted a test at Volusia Speedway's half mile asphalt oval on January 15 at the request of the Motorcycle Asphalt Racing Series (MARS) officials. The 1998 Florida Flat Track Series round at Volusia was delayed after track conditions caused Will Davis to crash in turn two. MARS officials reported that Daniels' test was a success and that he found traction to be consistent in every corner. The MARS event is scheduled for March 4. According to newspaper reports, construction on a new race track "suitable for Indy-style racing" in Joliet, U1inois, will begin soon - in time for racing in the spring of 2001. Joliet's ci ty council unanimously approved armexation and zoning for the as-yet-unnamed track, according to the Reuters report, which has a price tag of $100 million and will be privately funded. CORRECTION: The Camden Racing Complex's annual Southern Championship Team Race will be held on February 28 - and not in August, as was printed in an advertisement in last week's issue.
