P34
his first of the season. Podiums
(three before Misano) have mixed
with no scores and that has
made Caricasulo almost a nearly
man.
From pole, he ran second
behind early leader and eventual
fourth-place finisher, Jules Cluzel
(NRT Yamaha) and then hit the
front and just kept pushing. He
was only 1.423 seconds ahead
of eventual second-place finisher
Raffaele De Rosa (MV Agusta
Reparto Corse by Vamag), but it
was as clear a win as you could
get. And the local fans got to
hear their own National Anthem.
De Rosa's second place was
his best finish in this category of
racing, and he is the only rider to
regularly split the all-consuming
Yamahas with any consistency.
Third, but your continuing
championship leader, was Sandro
Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha),
who benefitted from Cluzel's loss
of pace, as he finished seven
seconds from the win.
Fifth was the yellow Bardahl
Evans Bros Racing R6 of Randy
Krummenacher, and top Kawasa-
ki was, again, the privateer effort
of Anthony West and his EAB ant
West Ninja ZX-6R, in sixth place.
He held off top Honda runner
Kyle Smith (CIA Landlord Insur-
ance), who was seventh.
In the points, with four rounds
to run, Cortese has 138, Cluzel
133, Krummenacher 116 and
Caricasulo leapfrogging his
team-mate Lucas Mahias, who
crashed in a huge highside early
on, with 104 points. Next round is
Portimao in September, just like
the superbike guys.
