NOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL/AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 7 / JUNE 7, 2018 BUCHANAN, MICHIGAN / REDBUD P62 Monster Energy Kawasaki's series points leader and de- fending champ, Tomac, came into RedBud 32 points ahead of Red Bull KTM's Marvin Mus- quin and had a 15-second lead in the first moto with less than three laps left when his mo- torcycle quit on him. The DNF didn't just cost him 22 points to Musquin, who finished second in the first moto, but it gave him 36th gate pick for moto two as well. That gate pick resulted in a terrible start, and things just snowballed from there on his way to finishing ninth in the moto after a few falls and a trip to the mechanics' area for repairs. The 450MX championship Marvin Musquin grabbed his second straight win and is the new points leader in the 450MX class. TOUGH TIMES The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team again experienced some more bad luck at RedBud. In the first moto, Austin Forkner worked his way up to take the lead from Aaron Plessinger only to take the outside in the turn after the sand whoops and open the door for Aaron Plessinger to push his way through, knocking Forkner to the dirt. He scored a DNF. After that, Forkner's teammate Joey Savatgy fought his way up to second, then he went down as well, finishing 17th. Rookie teammate Garrett March- banks matched his best finish of the year that moto, though, with a sixth. But in the second moto, things turned around for Forkner (second) and Savatgy (fifth), while it was Marchbanks who crashed off the start of moto two and scored a DNF. "The first moto was awesome and it felt great to be back," Marchbanks said about his first race back since injuring his MCL in his knee at High Point. "I was really feeling good in that first race. Unfortunately, I went down at the start of the second moto and wasn't able to continue." HAMPSHIRE OUT Geico Honda's RJ Hampshire had a fantastic end to the first moto, grabbing second place after Joey Savatgy went down.
