him, and then he was caught by
Forkner, who had worked his
way past Cooper for second a
handful of laps into the race and
closed the gap on McElrath. It
took him almost four laps to do
it, but right as Martin caught For-
kner, Forkner found a line around
the outside of McElrath on the
sandy soil to take the lead. Mar-
tin followed him through, past his
teammate, for second right away,
earlier, Shane McElrath (TLD/
Red Bull KTM) grabbed the
holeshot over local boy Jimmy
Decotis, Justin Cooper (Monster
Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing
Yamaha), Chase Sexton (Geico
Honda), Austin Forkner (Monster
Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki),
RJ Hampshire (Geico Honda),
Alex Martin (TLD/Red Bull KTM),
privateer Gage Schehr, and
points leader Plessinger (Yama-
lube/Star Racing Yamaha).
McElrath held strong out front

a week before Southwick, and
the speculation was that with the
series exit of two-time champ
Jeremy Martin (due to injury),
Plessinger might pull himself back
together in Massachusetts and re-
sume his place at the front of the
250MX field, but it was not to be.
