FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK SERIES ROUND 10 / JUNE 30, 2018 ALLEN COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS / LIMA, OHIO P90 iii My Own Race: 1 JARED MEES 1ST AFT TWINS "The track was bitchen; it was awesome. I got the holeshot and led all my laps," said Jared Mees of his winning ride. "That's what you need to do here and stay out of the spray. Spray everybody else down. The track was getting demanding as hell. The fitness came into plan huge here. I looked back and saw that Jeffrey was kind of gaining on me for a couple laps. I looked back with three or four to go and I was scared because I was getting into some lappers, but I had built up a pretty good lead. I don't know if his line wore out or if he wore out." 23 JEFFREY CARVER 2ND AFT TWINS "Jared has been winning and he has it figured out," said runner-up Jeffrey Carver. "I kind of wore out the couple lines that I tried running. I kind of wore myself out having to charge so hard coming through the pack. When it's all said and done, it's great to be right behind the guy that's been winning all the races, the champ. I'm the second winner. I think we could have run together. I gave him a 50-yard head start. I wore myself out getting up there. I was waiting a little longer in the race and then we got into some lappers. There were just some different little scenarios. He's the champ and we're learning from him. I'm learning how to run that pace and do- ing our best to stay up there." 17 HENRY WILES 3RD AFT TWINS "Obviously I made a few little mistakes. I was trying to ride hard to stay with them and made a few mistakes," said Henry Wiles. "I was just trying to find my way out there, trying to figure out where I could best put my bike to get around this track. Eventually I found the line that didn't want to throw me into the fence and pitch me off the thing or turn me around backwards. I was all over the place trying to figure it out. I knew guys like Johnny [Lewis] and Briar [Bauman] were fast out high, but I could make it work there. I really wanted to keep that second-place spot, but it just wasn't meant to be tonight. I think just knowing how to set up your motorcycle for you is the biggest thing. I honestly thought that we were going to be a little bit closer than we were. We weren't bad, but we weren't on a winning pace." 14 BRIAR BAUMAN 4TH AFT TWINS The debut of the Zanotti Racing/Roof-Systems Indian Scout FTR750 would have to be considered a success. "I can't thank Roof Systems out of Dallas enough. It is their Indian and they are giving us the opportunity to race again," said Bauman. "The first ride was good, top five. The competitiveness in me always wants to be better, especially after winning here last year. Our rear shock setup was off, it just wore me down. It wore me down to nothing. I haven't been that tired in a long time. I haven't been in the last three main events because of mechanicals, so it's been a while. Lima is not one that you want to show up for and not be as prepared as pos- sible. To come out of here in fourth, I'm stoked." 69 SAMMY HALBERT 6TH AFT TWINS "It was a decent run for me. We got a bad start from the second row in the main but was able to work my way forward. I ended up in the top five," said Halbert. "I was strong early on. I think it slowed down on me a little bit. We're making progress. It's like two steps forward and one step back. The guys are all working so hard. It's good motivation for me to see how hard the team is working to get us where we need to be. We've had a lot of different issues, but we are starting to resolve them. We've had some issues with the bikes getting a little bit hot and slowed down in the main event and we've made some progress with that. I love Lima. There's nothing like a Lima half-mile for me. Hopefully we can have the bikes sorted for next year and fight for the win."
