IN THE WIND P30 PEARSON CAPS OFF WHS FINAL A xel Pearson led a Purvines Racing Beta 1-2 at the Moapa Valley Off-Road Round- up, hosted by the Darkside Motorcycle Club, the eighth and final round of the Kenda/ SRT AMA West Hare Scrambles Regional Championship Series in Logandale, Nevada, Novem- ber 13. Leading from shortly after the start, he finished nearly four minutes in front of Nick Burson, who'd locked up the series championship at the previous round; he finished with 182 points. Pearson vaulted from fifth to third in the final series point standings with 101. Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/ Precision Concepts Yamaha- mounted Justin Morgan rounded out the top three on the day, the round-seven winner finish- ing the season fifth overall at 96 points. Round-four winner Justin Bonita wrapped up second in final points at 134 with a strong fourth-place finish on his IRC Tire Yamaha. (Defending series champ Cory Graffunder missed the final three rounds due to scheduling conflicts; the SRT KTM rider ending up fourth in final points at 92.) Pearson got a good jump off the start but teammate Damon Bush enjoyed an even better one, grabbing the holeshot as they left the pavement and jump- ing into the first sand wash. But it didn't take long for Pearson to power past Bush on his Motul/Precision Concepts/ Klim-backed 480 RR, and from there he stayed in front for his second win of the season, though his other teammate gave him a good run. "I kind of got lucky and got a good start for once," Pearson said. "I put quite a bit of time on them the first mile or two, and I looked back and I didn't see anybody close." That's because Burson, on the other hand, got a midpack start. Though he already had the Axel Pearson recorded his second triumph of the season, moving from fifth to third in final points.
