BURSON BLITZES GORMAN WHS
P
urvines Racing Beta's Nick
Burson dominated the
Hungry Valley Hare Scramble,
hosted by the Prospectors
Motorcycle Club, March 19-20,
to become the third different
winner this season at the third
round of the Kenda/SRT AMA
West Hare Scrambles Regional
Championship Series. In doing
so, last year's series number
three moved into the points lead
with five rounds remaining.
Reigning series champ Cory
Graffunder of the SRT Racing
Team chose to ride the Husky
FC 450 he'd used to pre-run the
San Felipe 250, switching from
his usual KTM 300 XC. It obvi-
ously worked out as he charged
through the pack to claim sec-
ond place while Maxxis/FMF/
RPM Racing KTM's Travis Coy
was a close third.
Off the start at the Quail
Canyon MX track, Ryan Kudla
pulled the holeshot on his 3
Bros./Pilan.com/Moose KTM
300 XC, but it didn't take too
long before Burson took over on
his Precision Concepts/Kenda/
Klim-backed 480 RR. And that
was the closest anyone got to
the eventual winner as he simply
took off.
"I knew I needed to get out
front and just try to get away so
no one could key off me and
use the dust to my advantage,"
Burson said. "I rode the first two
laps pretty much all-out and then
just backed it down and just
tried to manage my lead.
"It felt good after everything
that's been going on to get a win
wire to wire."
After the first 12-mile lap of the
substantially changed course
the Prospectors laid out, Bur-
son's closest pursuers were
