11TH ANNUAL OLD SCHOOL MX REUNION/5TH ANNUAL AHRMA VINTAGE NATIONALS
P60
(Right) Globe-trotting racer Heinrich "Henry"
Gref has quite a history. From his first
race on a 50cc Jawa moped in his native
Czechoslovakia to wrenching for the likes
of Barry Higgins, Gary Jones and Marty
Moates, he figures he's been racing for 57
years, both here and in Europe, where he
says the vintage scene is even larger than in
the U.S. For example, the oldest age group
in Euro vintage MX used to be 66+, but
there got to be so many entrants that even
with two-gate starts, the tracks simply got
too crowded and unsafe. So, there's now a
70+ class that consistently sees nearly 30
riders from more than a dozen countries. By
the way, Gref celebrated his 74th birthday
by winning both motos of the Post-Vintage
70+ Expert class the day after winning both
motos of Vintage 70+ Expert as a 73-year-
old on his CZ.
