BURSON TOPS GORMAN NATIONAL
HARE SCRAMBLES
P
urvines Racing Beta rider Nick Burson led
from start to finish at the Hungry Valley Hare
Scrambles, round three of the Kenda/SRT AMA
West Hare Scrambles Championship Series, in
Gorman, California, March 14-15. Burson's vic-
tory closed the points chase considerably. While
he still holds third, Burson is only a point behind
FMF/Maxxis/RPM Racing KTM's Travis Coy, who
was runner-up on the day. Coy has 66 points to
Burson's 65. Round-two winner Cory Graffunder
remains the leader with 76 after his third-place fin-
ish in Gorman aboard his SRT KTM.
"I knew coming here, I needed to get out front
and try to get away early," Burson said. "I knew a
lot of the trails out here, so I knew the first lap was
going to be key to try to break away."
And break away he did, from the first wave of
the green flag to the checkered flag two and a
half hours later, Kenda/Motul/6D Helmets 430
RR-mounted Burson was on another level, coping
best with the slick, hard-packed trails as he pulled
away with each gear shift.
Graffunder followed Burson into the first turn and
slotted into second place early aboard his TBT/
Fasst Company/O'Neal KTM 300 XC. But he real-
ized that it'd be better for his championship hopes
