VOL. 51 ISSUE 1 JANUARY 7, 2013 BOWERS, MCDADE SHARE ARENACROSS WINS T yler Bowers and Michael McDade opened the 2014 Amsoil Arenacross Series, featuring Ricky Carmichael's Road to Supercross, with a pair of wins at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, January 3-4. Bowers, the defending champ, got things started with the overall win Friday night, and McDade finished things off with the overall victory Saturday night. Bowers, on the Team Babbitt's/Monster Energy/AMSOIL/Kawasaki, won both main events Friday night, while Bower's teammate Zach Ames finished second overall via 4-2 rides. Jacob Hayes, on the Brewer Cycles Kawasaki out of Greensboro, N.C., made the podium with 3-5 finishes. Hayes also took top honors in the Heat-to-Head Bracket Racing, earning bonus points toward the 2014 Championship. Bowers' good fortune ran out Saturday night. He had problems in both main events and finished out the night a disappointing 12th overall. He did, however, win the Headto-Head Bracket Racing segment. But his tough night dropped him from first to sixth in championship points. McDade, however, rebounded nicely after his first-night fifth. The Motorsport.com/ MJM Express/Spinchillers Racing Kawasaki Team rider came away with the overall victory with 2-1 results. Ames went 1-5 for second overall and KTM rider Willy Browning went 5-2 for third overall. But it was Ames who came out of Worcester smelling like a rose. His consistent placings netted him the overall points lead with 19 races to go. The series will open at Shannonville Motorsport Park in Shannonville, Ontario, June 6-8, and is currently slated to close with the traditional doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, August 15-17. De Dycker Suffers Wrist Injury Red Bull KTM Factory Racing MX1 rider Ken De Dycker was injured in an accident on Saturday, December 21 at the Lommel circuit, the big Belgian rider suffering multiple fractures to his left wrist. The 29-year old De Dycker went out to put in a few fun laps on his KTM 250 Enduro bike when, according to KTM, he was unable to avoid a stationary rider after clearing a jump. De Dycker finished third overall in the MX1 World Championship and was also a part of the winning Belgium team at the Motocross of Nations. He underwent surgery in the Belgian town of Herentals in which the fractures were secured with plates and screws. According to KTM the surgery was successful and went off without any complications. No Miller For AMA Superbikes Miller Motorsports Park has announced its schedule of events for 2014 – and AMA Superbike racing isn't a part of it. The track in Tooele, Utah, will, however, still host a round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship on August 23. As far as motorcycle road racing goes, Miller will offer up Bike Fest, July 26-27, which will feature WERA racing and the Utah Sport Bike Association's Masters of the Mountains Series. The track will also run U.S. Pro Supermoto on its Supermoto track. Miller – arguably one of the most popular tracks with riders in the series - has hosted AMA Superbike races and/ or World Superbike racing since it opened in 2006. Take It To The Portland Limit Peter Starr's iconic feature film "Take It To The Limit" is to make a rare theatrical "big screen" appearance at the first annual Portland Motorcycle Film Festival, January 11-12, hosted by the Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association (OMRRA) as a fundraiser for Air Fence protective barriers used at Portland International Raceway. In addition to "Take It To The Limit," three other feature length documentary motorcycle films, "Why We Ride," "Road Warriors" and "White Knuckle" will be shown at Portland's historic Hollywood Theatre.
