FIRST RACE, FIRST WIN
You've seen the Rockstar Energy Racing team in
action before but never in the 450 class. Anaheim I
was the team's first try in the premier class and they
came away with the win at the hands of Davi Millsaps.
And what makes the win even more remarkable is that
the team is a full on privateer effort.
Understandably, the team's general manager Dave
Gowland was on cloud nine after the race.
"I can't believe it, first race in 450," he said. "When
it gets down to it, it's a team effort, it comes down to
the fact that I've got a group of individuals that believe
in what we're trying to do, what we're trying to accomplish, and tonight was just a result of it.
"To be a non-factory team, to be able to run on our
own, and we really do it on our own. We're a cash
and carry [team], we have to pay cash for everything
and carry everything out [of the stores] - bikes, parts,
everything. We have a motor department, we do all
of our motors in house, we do everything in house,
they're production motorcycles that we buy and we
turn them into race bikes with no help from the fac-
tory. It's incredible.
"Tonight is a night that a group of individuals
came together," he added. "We worked through the
holidays, we worked hours on hours, through Christmas, through New Year's, to try and give Davi what he
needed and that's the way it was."
And don't forget.
"We did good in the 250 class, too. We got a fourth
and a sixth and we're a contender there, too. I have to
say that we're off to a good start"
